Faculty, are you planning to apply for a Graduate Research Consultant for your Maymester or summer course? The deadline for Maymester/Summer 2015 courses is January 27.

Undergraduate students, are you interested in applying to present your research at the ACC Meeting of the Minds conference in April? The deadline is February 1.

Are you planning to apply for a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship? The deadline is February 26.

You can attend the SURF Information Session on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, from
5:00-6:30 p.m. in the FPG Student Union Room 3408. In this workshop, you will hear from past Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) recipients about how they developed their successful proposals. There will be a short presentation by the Writing Center on how to develop proposals. You will have the opportunity to talk with OUR staff about proposal design, and learn more about the SURF Peer Writing Advisors who can give you valuable feedback on your proposal prior to submission.

Join us for Introduction to Oral History, cosponsored by the Office for Undergraduate Research and the Southern Oral History Program on Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 5:00-6:30 p.m., in Graham Memorial Room 039.  Are you interested in oral history for a class paper or thesis project? Do you want to interview people but aren't sure where to begin or what are productive approaches? On February 5 from 5-6:30pm in Graham Memorial Room 039, Evan Faulkenbury from the Southern Oral History Program will give a free workshop on the basics of oral history. You will learn about the do's and don'ts of oral history and, by the end, you will feel confident enough to conduct your own interviews with anyone.

Join OUR and the Carolina Center for Public Service on Friday, February 13 for Involving Undergraduates in Engaged Research. A faculty panel will share their experiences working with undergraduate researchers through embedding research in courses, advising and mentoring students on independent projects and/or supervising them as research assistants or interns. Sign-in and refreshments at 8:45; panel discussion 9-10:30 in Toy Lounge, Dey Hall. Please register.


Other News, Events and Opportunities

Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (MURAP): Are you looking for a summer internship that will help prepare you for graduate school in the humanities, social sciences or fine arts? Are you willing to devote yourself full-time to that goal during ten weeks this coming summer? Are you a sophomore or junior and a permanent resident or citizen of the US?  If you answered yes to all these questions, you qualify to apply to our program. The applications for our summer 2015 program (May 24-July 30, 2015) will be available on our website beginning on November 3, 2014. The deadline for submissions is February 6, 2015.

The Committee on Institutional Cooperation offers paid Summer Research Opportunities at multiple institutions. The deadline for applications is February 10, 2015.

The McNair Scholars Program is accepting applications. McNair Scholars are either first-generation college students with financial need, or members of a group traditionally underrepresented in graduate education and have demonstrated strong academic potential. The program is designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies. Information sessions are scheduled for January 21 and February 10; the deadline to apply is February 27, 2015.

Are you interested in conducting research with NASA? Read more here about research internship opportunities. The deadline for summer opportunities is March 1.

There is a paid summer research internship opportunity at the Oklahoma State University REU Site: Biological Basis of Human and Animal Behavior. The deadline to apply is March 2, 2015.

The Science Enrichment Program is an eight-week, honors-level academic enrichment program that targets first-generation, underrepresented minority, rural, and/or socioeconomically disadvantaged undergraduate students (rising sophomores and juniors) who seek admission into graduate/health professional programs. The deadline to apply is March 2, 2015.

There is an NSF REU available at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas that focuses on Mechanisms of Evolution. The application deadline for the Summer 2015 REU program is March 6, 2015.
