Apply for a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) now!

Carolina undergraduates are encouraged to consider applying to the 2025 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program, which provides a $4,000 stipend for students to engage in undergraduate research for at least 9 weeks, with a minimum of 20 hours/week during the summer. All SURF projects must be carried out under the supervision of a UNC-Chapel Hill faculty research advisor. Additional collaboration with a postdoctoral fellow or graduate student mentor is encouraged if relevant to the project.  

Interested students are encouraged to start looking at the general SURF description, carefully read all application requirements, and discuss their proposals with faculty mentors as soon as possible. If you have any questions about applying for SURF, please email our@unc.edu.
