The Marine Physical Laboratory at the world renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography is seeking inquisitive and motivated undergraduate students with an exceptional aptitude for quantitative science with majors in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geology.

Undergraduate college students contemplating a career in scientific research and development are encouraged to apply for a summer research internship in marine science and technology.  This ten-week summer internship program offers qualified students the opportunity to work with some of the most notable scientists in the world while earning a modest salary.  In addition to their research, students will attend weekly seminars given by members of our faculty and scientific staff.

The Summer Program to Increase Diversity in Undergraduate Research (SPIDUR) is a 9-week summer program for high-achieving undergraduate students, proving research experience and professional development training in their field of interest. These opportunities are not typically available in the undergraduate classroom. This <strong><em>learn-by-doing</em></strong> model places an emphasis on graduate education and allows the Scholars to put their experiential learning into practice, preparing them to excel in their future studies and research.

Research is an excellent opportunity to become more engaged in your field of study and interact with faculty members in prospective graduate schools. The University of Michigan Summer Opportunity Research Program offers outstanding undergraduates underrepresented in their field of study the opportunity to conduct intensive research. The goal is to prepare students for graduate studies at U-M. SROP Participants work with faculty mentors either on an individual basis or as part of a research team. In addition, all participants engage in a series of academic, professional, and personal development seminars, and culminate their experience by presenting their work at a research symposium. SROP helps build strong professional and personal networks that facilitate the transition to the graduate community.
