Departmental and Course Symposia

A number of departments and individual courses host seminars and symposia that feature the research of undergraduates. See the list below for departmental events and ask your instructors about opportunities to present your research or to learn more about the research your peers are doing. We welcome listings of undergraduate research seminars, events or workshops related to student research from individual departments or campus organizations. Please contact us at our@unc.edu to link to or list your seminar or workshop information.

We are able to co-sponsor a limited number of multidisciplinary conference and symposia where UNC undergraduates will present their research, scholarship, and/or creative performance to an audience of at least 50 people, including UNC faculty, students, and staff and the general public.

Department of Biology
Candidates for Honors present and defend their thesis research during the John K. Koeppe Biology Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry and Gamma Sigma Epsilon host an undergraduate research symposium. The afternoon-long symposium features the original research of UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduates in projects principally involving chemistry.

Department of Computer Science
The Computer Science Department has an in-house symposium every year, usually at the end of April. Students spend a half day presenting their research to the entire department.

Department of English
Each spring the People, Ideas and Things Journal, an undergraduate peer-reviewed journal, hosts a university-wide undergraduate research conference. Students from all majors are encouraged to submit their work, which may also be submitted for publication.

Gillings Global School of Public Health
Each spring, the School of Public Health hosts a Student Research Poster event.
