Department: Political Science

The purpose of this project is to explore gendered approaches and understandings of love in Muslim South Asian-American communities. The goal is to show how traditional forms of courtship have evolved with decreased gender segregation and the advance of social media. This work is primarily focused around primary sources through interviews and personal narratives, but will also draw upon secondary sources. This research aims to highlight a community in the United States that has long been caricatured and typecast as having little to no agency in the marital process, or with the experience of love in general.
