This literature review is aimed at examining the effects of parental substance use on children’s educational and cognitive outcomes. Previous literature has shown that in addition to an increased risk of school failure, parental substance use is also linked to lower cognitive scores for children. This literature review provides support for the negative effects on children’s cognitive and educational outcomes associated with parental substance use. These effects on children include behavioral conduct issues, lower school GPA, overall school failure, lower cognitive test scores, and an increased risk of mental disorder co-morbidities._x000D_
