Using circularly polarized photon beams from the High Intensity Gamma-Ray Source (HIGS), and the HIGS NaI Detector Array (HINDA) at Triangle
Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL), the Compton scattering cross section has been measured for 6Li at 60 MeV. By determining the cross section with relatively small statistical uncertainties, more accurate values for the isospin averaged nucleon polarizabilities can be obtained. Being fundamental structure constants, these polarizabilities are of great interest, and a more accurate measurement will help shed light on the quark structure of the nucleon.
