Undergraduates: Douglas Romney, Davis Bennett, John Andrew Wein, Azadeh Pirnia

Department: Philosophy

The Ethics Bowl provides students with a unique opportunity to practice applying the moral theories and argumentation principles that they learn in their ethics classes. They receive 15 case studies in advance involving ethical issues in a number of practical contexts. Questions are then presented to the team which examine the ethical issues that are brought out by these case studies. Preparing responses to these questions involves a great deal of research, writing and oral presentation. One of the cases for the 2008 competition involved issues of privacy and personal space related to the technology used in the Google Street View application. Our presentation will analyze some of the practical ethical issues that have arisen from this new technology.
