We are creating a proposal to commission German composer, Georg Katzer, to write a work for clarinet and piano to be premeired on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Our plan is to travel to Berlin, Germany to meet, study and work with Herr Katzer in preparation of his composition. Prior to traveling abroad, we will do extensive research on the greater part of his compositions to assist us in understanding his compositional style and techniques. This project came to us in part because we are looking to expand ourselves as musicians in a way that exposes us to completely new repertory. With that in mind, we have decided to seek an opportunity to study and participate in a project that can take us through the process of music from its conception to performance. By placing a new and serious work into the clarinet and piano repertory, by a well-established composer, we hope that this project will have far-reaching benefits to everyone involved, as well as the community of musicians and the University.
