Mentoring Undergraduates in STEM Research (for graduate and post-graduate students)

09/22/2023 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Mentoring undergraduate students is a routine function of academic research labs with applications in academia and in business. This workshop, being offered again due to positive student feedback, is designed for graduate and post-graduate students who are already mentoring (or will be mentoring) undergraduates and will cover strategies for common mentoring situations in research labs such as effective communication, training, and motivation, and we will work with templates to help you become an effective mentor.

We’ll also learn how an Entrepreneurial Mindset focused on curiosity, making connections, and creating value can support your research and your interactions with undergraduate students. Attendees are invited to bring questions or specific situations about their mentorship experience for group discussion.

Facilitators: Dr. Anastasia Rynerson, Assistant Professor, School of Engineering, Campbell University, and Dr. Christina Pantoja, Postdoctoral Researcher, School of Engineering, Campbell University.

Questions: Dr. Rich Goldberg, Teaching Associate Professor, Applied Physical Sciences: r.goldberg@unc.edu
