Barbara Stegenga talks to Ankita Chopde during the CURE course "Hunting for Microbes" on September 11, 2019. The students gathered soil from home or campus and treated the samples with other products, like sunscreen or even hot dog water, to see how microbes in the soil will interact or change due to those treatments. This workshop exposes students to research conducted within the Department of Chemistry, including organic, inorganic, biological, synthetic, and polymer chemistry. Additionally, it discusses opportunities within the UNC School of Medicine and relates current research in pharmacology and its subdivisions to the broader study of molecular science. This workshop is focused on helping students interested in chemistry find laboratories and other opportunities that can support them as future researchers. This event qualifies for CLE credit. Registration is required to attend.
