UNC-CH EDGE Genomics Program is Seeking Applicants for Summer 2024
12/11/2023Educational pathways to increase Diversity in GEnomics is a unique 2-year summer research program at UNC Chapel Hill for undergraduate students who are interested in genomics. Housing and meals are provided.
Year 1 – 2024: 3 weeks (July 8-26), $1800 stipend
- fundamentals of genetic science
- careers in genomics
- genomics in medicine
- ethical, legal, and social issues in genomics
- mentoring & professional development
Year 2 – 2025: 8 weeks (June – July 2025, exact dates TBD), $4800 stipend
- working in a research lab with mentors
- professional development
- science communication training
Eligibility:
- EDGE is focused on undergraduate freshman and sophomore students, but juniors can also apply
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Must be 18 or older
- EDGE Genomics is open to students who are underrepresented in the field of genomics: individuals who belong to underrepresented racial and ethnic groups (Native Americans/Alaska natives, Hispanic Americans, Hawaiian natives/U.S. Pacific Islanders, and African Americans), individuals with disabilities, and/or individuals from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds
