Cyberbullying is an online form of victimization with adverse mental and physical health consequences. The Teens and Tech Curriculum was designed to increase awareness about healthy and intentional social media use in middle school students. This discussion-based program shows efficacy in increasing cyberbullying knowledge, as shown by a preliminary study of (n=70) middle schoolers who were taught the curriculum. Participants reported more experiences being cyberbullied and witnessing cyberbullying after the curriculum. They also correctly recognized and/or named more behaviors of cyberbullying after the curriculum, suggesting that the increased reports of cyberbullying were driven by improved recognition of exactly what constitutes cyberbullying. These promising results support previous findings that cyberbullying intervention programs can increase cyberbullying knowledge.
