Description

The Internet Tobacco Vendor Study (ITVS) is looking for volunteers to assist with site screening, site archiving, and data collection. We have smaller, additional studies that look at other products, such as alcohol and thc, that may also have content for analysis.

No prior experience needed. Training is provided (via Zoom). All tools and repositories can be accessed remotely using your ONYEN. Required: a computer or laptop running Windows or Mac OS, a stable internet connection.

Preferred candidates would have a strong interest in public health and/or public health policy. Anyone with an interest in getting hands-on, real world experience with research is encouraged to apply. We are looking for candidates that can commit to a minimum of around 8 hours per week (approximately 5 to 6 site surveys/week). Hours are flexible (tools generally available 24 hours/day) but staff availability is limited outside of normal business hours. We have positions available for immediate start.

About the study: ITVS researches the marketing and sales practices of online nicotine vendors and analyzes retail sites to assess compliance with federal regulations with a focus on reducing tax evasion and youth access. Our work has direct impact on state and federal policies affecting public health.

This opportunity is a wonderful introduction to research and data collection to gain hands-on experience. We have also provided letters of recommendation for volunteers upon request.

Interested students should complete our online application here: (https://go.unc.edu/Pd27K) and send your resume to Jessie Scott (he/him): jscott36@email.unc.edu. Please reach out should you have any questions.
