Description

Despite combined antiretroviral therapy (cART), HIV-1 infects the brain and results in HIV-1 associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) which affects nearly half of all HIV-1 infected individuals and it makes HIV-1 a chronic disease. Our lab is interested in better understanding the potential neuroprotective effects of cannabinoids and endocannabinoids in the context of neuroHIV. To do so, we use a wide range of techniques such as behavior, in vitro, and in vivo calcium imaging in our HIV Tat transgenic mouse models.
